Chapparal Sharks
COACHES
Head Coach

We are thrilled to have KAREN AMMON back for another season as our Head Coach.  Karen swam for many years growing up in California, setting numerous school and league records in High School.  She attended the University of Michigan where she was a 4 year letterman and received her B.A.  Karen has coached two YMCA/USS Teams, 2 Summer Swim Clubs, 2 High School Teams, and a masters program. Currently she is an age group coach for the 17 time State Champion, Colorado Stars, she coaches the Grandview High School Girls Team, and runs a springtime Stroke Clinic.  Those who know Karen, know she does all of this with the goal of creating a love for swimming in each swimmer, all while managing a busy household and her own four swimmers.

Assistant Coaches

RITA FLYNN: I am excited to be returning for my third year as an Assistant Coach to Chapparal Sharks swim team. I have swum on the team for fourteen years. I have also been a club swimmer for ten years, and participated as a varsity swimmer at Cherokee Trail High school and was captain as well. I was an international Baccalaureate participant all four years of high school. I will be attending Boston University as an English Education major this fall. I look forward to working with all of the swimmers for another fun season!

CAYLA WOOD: Hey everyone! I am very excited to be an assistant coach again this summer. I will be in my second year at Colorado School of Mines in the fall where I am studying Engineering Physics with a minor in Bioengineering and Life Sciences and am also a member of the varsity swim and dive team. I graduated from Grandview HS in May 2010 where I swam varsity and went to state all four years as well as played soccer for three years. I swam for the Chapparal Sharks swim team for 8 years and have swam club for 14 years. I also work as a head lifeguard at the Highlands at Piney Creek for Front Range Recreation. I love coaching and helping young swimmers learn ways to make themselves better, and I am looking forward to a great summer coaching and spending time with all the swimmers!
